What are you looking for?

Hubby and I recently bought a new car - a black Ford Explorer.

Before I bought one, I never realized how many people actually have a black Ford Explorer. Now that I have one, I see them everywhere (especially in parking lots - when I am trying to find my car!).

Mary Kay is a lot like that. You see what you look for.

I have seen some anti-MK sites say things like:

  • "It's next to impossible to get women to book and hold classes..."

  • "There are no retail customers for MK."

  • "No one makes money in MK."

[Many of these comments have been refuted on this blog already, but that is not the point of this post. :o)]

  • If you walk around thinking that no one will book and hold a class, then that is what will happen.

  • If you think that no one pays retail for MK, then that will be your experience.

  • If you believe no one makes money in MK, then you probably won't make money in MK.

The term "self-fulfilling prophecy" certainly applies here.

  1. Great points! It kind of ties in with Mary Kay Ash's famous philosophy of "what you think about, you bring about." The power of our own mindset and outlook on things.
However, this is taking it a step further; those things ARE there. There ARE retail customers, you just have to look for them, and work for them (as well as think about it and believe in it happening.)
Anyway, great post. I agree 100%.

  2. Absolutely!

If you are looking for something, you will find it.

    Thanks for the comment!

  3. There are always reasons not to do something, and there will always be people who will remind you of those reasons.

I am not in the shape to participate in a triathlon, much less be competitive. However, my younger brother has been doing them for years and did the Ironman for the 1st time this year. He had no illusions about winning. He set his goal just to be in the top half, and he met his goal.

But I certainly do not and did not go around telling him that he was a nut to do triathons. I did not remind him that he was going to be in pain for the next few days afterwards. I did not tell him that some people never finish the race, and that some people require medical attention or worse. I did not tell him that he is abandoning his 3 sons so he can selfishly go to Hawaii without his family. In short, I did not rain on his parade just because it's not something I would devote my time and energy to preparing for.

  4. Excellent post, Shay. I am a firm believer in the old adage, "What you think about you bring about." To put it in MK words. ;)

    My favorite quote is:

"If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't, you're right!"

A big factor in thinking things will happen is MAKING them happen. We do have control over our destinies. When things don't go as planned, we have to persevere. That is the difference between those who make it to the top (reach their goals) and those who do not (reach their goals).
