The appeal of Mary Kay

My name is Shay. I am the wife of a disabled veteran and the mom to four kiddos. I homeschool 3 of them. (The fourth is my sd and lives with her bio mom).

I am a former MK consultant (over 13+ years ago) and I am soon to be a brand-new consultant again!

Having been in MK before, I know what to expect, but I am looking forward to the changes that have taken place. (Internet training, etc.)

There are many reasons why women join Mary Kay. Mine include the following:

  • Flexible hours

  • Making extra money

  • Being around adults (I home school - so adult conversation is a plus!)

  • Making new friends

  • Recognition/encouragement

  • Getting a discount on great MK products

I am sure that I could think of more, but that's a good start! :D

Some reasons I prefer MK over a J-O-B are these:

  • No child care costs

  • I can work my own hours.

  • I can work my schedule around my family.

  • I have control over my own business - no one tells me what to do (but support and advice are readily available).

MK is not for everyone, but I believe that it is a great opportunity for those who treat MK like a business (not a hobby) and are willing to learn about the products and about sales. (Yes, I said the "S" word. LOL)

Everyone has different reasons to join MK (and I hope to have everyone's feedback on what their reasons are), but that is a little about me and why MK appeals to me. :o)

Thanks to David for letting me chime in on this blog. :D

  1. Great job Shay!

You have posted some good reasons not to join MK, I think it might be great to add a few reasons one should think twice about joining too.

*You want to get rich quick and it is easy money. The products are great but no, they "literally" do not sell themselves, one must market them. You should enjoying doing facials and classes because you will not be happy with your cash flow just being an order taker.

*You don't believe and love the products. I am sure there are some people that can sell ice to Eskimos but the majority of people will only be successful if they truly love what they are marketing.

*You believe the products are overpriced. If you feel this way, how do you expect to have enough belief in the products to expect others to pay for the product.

*You want to be home every day, evening, and weekend. Let's face it, you are going to have to be out on occassion and the majority of working women, work during the day, the only time you will probably be able to see them is in the evening.

*You are not willing to accept responsibility for learning, about products, money management, etc..

*You need recognition because you aren't getting it else where. Buying recognition will only cost you alot of money and in the long run you will loose even more self-respect when you realize you have done crazy stuff for a pin.

*You are only looking for friends. You will find some wonderful women in Mk, however, the majority of people you will be dealing with will be business associates that are friendly not true friends.

There are probably many more but I think these are some pretty good things to think about.

  4. The only reason to NOT join MK is if you are not willing to work an extra 6-8 hours a week. NO part time job will pay you 7.00 an hour if you are not willing to work at least 10 hours a week.....NONE!!!
