Not just in MK, Scams....

Wow, I am shocked at the lengths people will go to in order to scam others. I know we have discussed all the fake orders that mk consultants receive and how they seem to be getting smarter and smart.... I was cleaning out my junk in box and noticed this, I usually just delete them but when I saw this it made me sad/mad. I am sure many people will fall for it because of wanting to help those serving our country. so I wanted to make it more public.

Yup, it is a Scam

I have received a few of these and I know a few of my unit members have as well.. Warning to all consultants, if it seems too good to be true.. beware..
(even if it is sent thru your marykay website .

Here is the email I received:

Attn: Independent Beauty Consultant,

Greetings to you.. I will like to make inquiry for the products listed
below in your store. Kindly confirm the availability of the order.
Below is the lists of my inquiry.

TimeWise?? Age_Fighting Moisturizer (normal to dry)_(2 qty)
TimeWise?? Age_Fighting Moisturizer (conbination tooily)_( 2 qty)
TimeWise?? Day Solution Sunscreem SPF 25* (1 qty)
TimeWise?? 3_in_1 cleanser (Normal/ Dry)_(6 qty)
TimeWise?? 3_in_1 cleanser (conbination/Oily)_(2 qty)

Ship To:

Kindly advise back as soon as possible with the quotes excluding the
shipping costs from it. We will be responsible for the pick up of the
order at your location once the payment is confirmed. My shipper will
be making the pick up arrangement once i get the receipt of the

Lastly, i will like to notify you that the payment of the item will be
made with a Certified Cashiers Check cashable at any local store or
Local banks. Email back with the payment details of where to have the
check mailed to. Name, Address, City, State, Zipcode and a working
phone number.

Fake Online Orders

This makes me sad that anyone would do this (the order from a consultant's personal website is published below)- for most consultants to get an order like this they would get soooooo excited about a "surprise" LARGE order. Sounds great, paid with cashier's check and product doesn't need to ship until after the check is received. Sad part... this is a big scam and not just a hurtful one emotionally... I have learned that often even if the consultant receives a cashier's check or money order, they are fake or stolen. So if the consultant has shipped the product, she is out the product and the payment. Please consultants remember the old saying, "if it sounds too good to be true it probably is" . It is really pathetic that anyone would waste their time and play this sort of mean trick on someone they don't even know. (shaking my head in disbelief and sadness) - what type of person does something like this? (and if the individual is trying to hurt Mary Kay because they hate the Company, this is not the way to do this. This scam only hurts the individual - not the Company).
p.s. I have also heard of the same scam with a credit card and then the consultant will find out it is a stolen card number - same outcome, out product and out payment.

Does Multi-Level Marketing have a "dark side"?

As some of you know, a good friend of mine (that I have never met) keeps a blog called Scamtypes.com. He reports on hoaxes and scams of all sorts. It was through Pink Truth that I met him as he did an article about Mary Kay that they linked to and as they say, "the rest is history".

Today he has posted an elegantly simple overview of the nature and consequential inherent problems that the MLM model of distribution can encounter.



To give you a little tease, he concludes:

Personally, as many readers here already know, I am not a fan of multi level marketing.
However, I am aware that many people can, and do, earn a good level of income from various types of network marketing.
When you consider that any business, MLM or not, works on a hierarchical backbone then it does put some anti-mlm complaints into perspective.
Many of the MLMs that I have reviewed have appeared on these pages because I am predisposed to finding the ones that may be bad apples, due to the nature and theme of this site.
As stated above, everyone is different and so we all perceive multi level marketing in different ways too. What works for one person may prove to be a spectacular failure to another. What makes one person a millionaire can appear to be a scam to the next recruit who joins.
Ultimately, anyone interested in joining a MLM should perform due diligence and make their own mind up, without any external pressures affecting that decision.
