Honest/Dishonest

Whenever I read pt, I often read complaints that the "whole truth" is never told so therefore, it is a lie. I read complaints over and over again about the MK world not being honest and that all are deceiptful because of lies of ommission or half truths. (First I disagree with that statement - I am sure some do just as I am sure others don't) but... once again I think I see a great example of the pot calling the kettle black! One of the posters nomoremlm4me makes a suggestion on how to rip off the Company - out and out stealing - the following post applauds the behavior and there are two thumbs up points and at the point I am writing this not one poster, points out that doing something illegal or immoral doesn't become right because you feel you want to stick it to MK.
and/but just in case anyone is thinking this is such a good idea, I am sure that MK would be intelligent enough to deduct the $100 rebate from buyback check amount. The rebate is being offered for a $600 wholesale inventory - if the inventory is returned, the rebate isn't valid.

I think this is really sad that noone speaks up and says that this behavior is in poor taste.

Building an ethical business

I have a short quote from the post on PT today:

The post goes on to whine about how evil Mary Kay is and how MK corrupted her character. Yeah, right. PinkPeace, by her own admission, told "little white lies" and "was prone to exaggeration". So how can Mary Kay be made to be the bad guy in all of this?

Oh, yeah. I forgot. No one on PT is at fault. They lie, cheat, etc., but that is NOT their fault. Mary Kay is the one that made them bad girls, and as soon as they lefy MK they their pure white selves re-emerged. Right. (And the ones who stay in Mary Kay because they are supposedlyt still reaping the benefits of all that cheating and lying they did in the past....well, that's okay, right?? They are all better now that they post on PT. Right. Bleh.)

Anyway, I know from the ones who post here that doing business in an honest, ethical fashion is not the exception - it is the norm!

I would love to hear from all of you doing your business the right way. The way it is supposed to be done.

Directors, Team Leaders, consultants, etc. -

• How are you finding new customers?
• How many classes are you booking?
• How are you providing great customer service?
• How have you achieved the level you are now?
• What kinds of plans/goals do you have for achieving the next level?
• How do you help/support/encourage your team members?
• What advice do you have for other IBC's?
• What gets you motivated?

AND, what would you say to a potential recruit if she said:

• "I have heard from this website I read that it is impossible to do Mary Kay as a business without being dishonest."

How would you answer that?

Can you succeed in Mary Kay without ethics?

I can't help it. I have to write about this. I can't keep my fingers quiet any longer.

This post on another blog discusses the use of fishbowls in businesses and getting leads.

Basically, this former consultant lied her way into being able to place a fishbowl in a local establishment (promising to buy a gift certificate for the winner of the drawing - which, by her own admission, she never did), and then called all of the leads and they all won the same thing - a free facial. Maybe some products. But everyone "won" the same thing.

This consultant goes on to say that she had over 500 customers this way! 500! But she wasn't making money.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

In all of the comments on the blog, no one says ANYTHING negative about her dishonesty! "Poor, poor, lying former consultant....thank you so much for baring your soul....." Gag me.

It's not like she gave her NAME or anything....so how wonderful is her confession? Whatever. I'll guarantee that she really messed things up for any other consultant who approaches those same business owners. Great. Thanks.

Her last few sentences sum it up nicely:

• "So, just to summarize, I stole from the store I had my bag or box in, I lied to over 500 people, I ruined the lives of all the people I recruited, and I didn't really make a dime.
  
  Wow. I'm so proud of myself. I wish all you consultants out there who are fish bowling the best of luck, because I know it's hard to look yourself in the face when you are robbing yourself of dignity and innocent people of money and time."

So, IF I were allowed to post a comment on that blog (which I can't - been banned, don't ya know), it would run something like this:

"You lied. You stole. Does it surprise you at all that you did horribly as a businessperson? Does it surprise you that people did not want to hear from you? Does it surprise you that you were unable to form a lasting business relationship with people?

I've got news for you: I sleep well at night. I won't cheat people out of what I promised.

Don't blame Mary Kay for your problems - your issues are a lot deeper and are purely yours.

Raisinberry says in a comment on the above post: 'Isn't it amazing how easy it was to lie to customers?' Um, Raisin, the only way it is easy to lie is if you are used to doing it and have gotten good at it. Congratulations."

Running your business with integrity is a must if you ever want long-term success.
