Fake Orders

This was asked from a reader but because I know it has been awhile since we covered this. But they are starting to happen again --- they really do try to play on a kind persons sympathies, -- plealse!! if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Noone in one state is going to look for someone across the country to get MK from. Should you get any orders like these, don't do anything except forward it to mary kay legal. From our reader: I have a customer that sent me an email saying that she was deaf and lives in Utah. She wants to place an order for her daughters birthday. Its a $428 order (pre tax), but its 1 item each, mostly, except for 2 things that she wants 2 of. She wants a timewise miracle set, satin lips set, peach satin hands set, night restore and recover complex, broad spectrum spf 30, 2 microdermabrasion sets, 2 Thinking of you parfums, and one bella belara parfum. I thought this sounded mostly reasonable until I read this... but even I myself have bought satin hands, satin lips, timewise miracle set, and a perfume all at the same time before. What should I do? This person contacted my phone first, and then through email.

  1. Hi. I just ran across your article, and I am a bit perplexed (a new MK consultant, forgive me).

Why would this scenario be cause for alarm? Why would someone want to place a fake MK order?

I would like to know why in case this ever happens to me. Thank you!

  2. many times it is a stolen credit card or money orders, very often it is shipped to a po box or ends up out of the country... if it is a stolen charge card of money order -- -the consultant is out both the money and the product and no recourse.

  3. That's terrible! I am like... one of the very few people legitimately ordering from a MK lady cross country, simply because we met on here. But my checks are always good and my orders are also not humongous. (BTW, waiting for new pack of checks to arrive, should be any day now and then I will throw my payment in the mail.) Sigh. I hate ripoff artists of any kind.

  4. I know this is an old article, but just in case there are still new readers (like me!) who stumble across it, I wanted to add my two cents.

I've been in direct sales for 7 years now. This is a VERY common scam for people in direct sales. But the reason that it should be a red flag is not because it's a huge sale, or even that it's from across the country. What you need to be careful about is how they say they want to pay. If they want to send you a partial payment, or an OVERpayment as a deposit and you refund them the rest, DO NOT PUT IN THEIR ORDER.

With those types of emails, ***I always refer them to my website*** and ask them to order online. There is no reason for an out of state person to be asking you to place an order for them like this. You will get screwed.

They are either trying to get your money, or use a stolen credit card. ALSO just look at their grammar. Most scam artists use bad grammar and bad spelling.

  5. I just received this email and I responded back telling them to order from a consultant in their area. I am sure it is a scam.

"I need you to place an Order for me and also want to be your new Customer, My Boss would mail you Check for the amount of the TimeWise Repair™ Volu-Firm™ Set, the shipping fee and the tax as well since i don't operate CREDIT CARD and am a DEAF WOMAN. The table below illustrate my Order. The Check MUST arrive before placing my Order."
