Model Makeup Artist Opinions

Colleen posted a link to a great piece on the comments of several makeup artists and their opinions about Mary Kay products. I thought it was worth bringing it to the front page so that everyone could enjoy it.

This is the link:

or, Click Here

The majority of the comments are very favorable, the negative comments (of course there are a few) sound like many of them are from past experience(as in not recent). Any of us that have used MK over time know we just keep getting better all the time. So if one hasn't tried the MK line in the last 5 or so years, I would love for them to revisit the product before making an opinion. Most technology today is superior to the technology we had five years ago in any field. (not everything but most). Just as a comparison, 5 years ago, many people had desktop computers, the tower, monitor, & keyboard. It was common and laptops were the "luxury item with the big price tag" - today, who would want the "bulk" of a desktop set up when one can buy a laptop for the same price? I remember the price of my first laptop, lol, and to think of what we can purchase them for today.

Enjoy, the article and thank you for sharing Colleen!

It's November & Christmas is Coming!!

Where does the time go? It feels like we just started 2010 and here we are in November already. So.... do we have to "adjust" the way we do things this time of year? My answer is "yes". Actually if you wait too much longer, you probably find yourself not doing much Mary Kay over the holidays. Not only can we have great Holiday Open Houses, but we can be booking for Holiday Party Glamour and even booking out past the new year with a "New Look for a New Year". But if you wait until mid December, it will tougher to get the bookings.

If you are out of leads, in our area from October thru Christmas, all over there are Holiday Craft Fairs. These events very reasonably priced so it is a great place to set up a Mary Kay table and do a drawing where people can register for a complimentary skin care presentation and color appointment. When doing these events, beside a display of our products, I also put together a few gift ideas for display only (we can not sell our products at this type of event, but we can take orders if someone does not have a consultant or book them for an appointment or follow up at a later date.

It might be hard to tell how well you did at any of these events until you follow up. Two weeks ago, I did a Holiday Home Party Business Expo. The event cost me $25 for my spot and was only 4 hours long. The event coordinator had not advertised heavily enough and there were several other events going on the same day so turnout was extremely low. I only ended up with three leads, I am sure many may have been extremely disappointed with only 3 leads but.........
of the three I have held appointments with two of them and both first sales were over $100 and both started on the skin care and plan on staying with it, and one introduced me to her husband and handed him my card and told him since he never knew what to get her for Christmas, to just give me a call because I had a "VERY LONG"
Wish List and 2 days later called and ordered several more pieces that we had ried at her appointmetn). So for a few hours (and fun with the other vendors) I would say that it was certainly worth my time. And every time my new clients reorder, I will continue to be "paid" for my time.

So share with your clients how you can assist them in their holiday shopping and you can help make sure she gets items off her wish list items, and you can offer to make sure that everyone has a great look for any Holiday parties that they may be attending, and get those "New Year, New Look NEW Year" appointments on the books!!

More to come on getting thru this time of the year but hopefully this has given you a few ideas to run with!!

Stay tuned!!

Working your MK in the Summer ! ?

With kids out of school, folks going on vacation, and the heat, often it can be a little tougher getting a group together for skin care and color.... but.... in my unit we have been doing -Footsie Tootsie Parties & Sandals and Sandals parties & Peach Pedi Parties and get a great turnout. It is fun, relaxing, shorter than our parties and perfect for the summer. They can be held in the yard, on a patio, or in the house.

I purchased large dish pans at the dollar store and bought the glass stones (used in aquariums, vases, etc..... i put the stones in a fill up with water... when the feet are rubbed across the stones it is like getting a message. (to clean the stones, I put them in a cloth bag and put them in the dishwasher. With foot fizzies or the pedicure soak or sometimes even rose petals, I let the guests soak and do some talking about me, the Company, and some of our other products (this can also be a great time just to talk about the skin care line and even let them try it on their arm.. then I use the Satin Hands set - have them put the extra emollient night cream on (optional -they can slip their feet into plastic and then soak them in the warm water) or just put their feet back in the pan.. Then let everyone use the smoothie scrub..(or any of the sugar scrubs) rinse off and pat the feet dry with a towel bags- then I let the guest choose between the energizing foot and leg treatment, the peach or unscented hand cream, or one of our many lotions.

I ask about the part of the arm they tried the skin care on and then I mention all the different types of parties we can offer. Very, very often they want to book the skin care/color party in the fall.. and that is fine with me... I will need bookings in the fall too.

I do a little closing and then either let them snack as I close each guest individually (or they get the "peachie" goodies - or if it is a Sandals and Sundaes party.. I put out the ice cream and all the toppings so everyone can design their own Sundaes (I also have orange sherbet cups in case anyone has ice cream issues.

As everyone is making their sundaes, I also offer the toe separators and nail polish if there is anyone that would like to polish their toe nails.

This is so much fun and when I have done unit guest events, we have really packed the house every time and the sales have been great and bookings too.

Make it fun and people will book.. Enjoy the Summer!! -

Another Cute Holiday Idea

The 12 Days of Christmas Wreaths...

Have the products wrapped in gift paper and attached to the wreath. Open one present a day for the 12 days. I also made one of these with empty product containers unwrapped for my front door. It got raves from any visitors, everyone commented how cute and clever it was and it even got me two orders one year, which reminds me, I should make one for this year!

Make the Holiday season fun. I hit the $ Store today to get some items for packaging gift, I found so many cute things, I had a blast! Can't wait to start putting some togehter.

Holiday Gift Ideas

For a little inexpensive gift, I love the "Gas Gloves" with Hand Cream:

Copy the Gas Gloves card below and print on card stock.

"Place these "Gas Gloves" in the glove box of your car. Put these on instead of your "good gloves" when you fill up with gas.
The hand cream will keep your hands soft and smooth all winter long. "

1. Purchase packs of stretchy gloves ( I have even found them 2 for $1)
2. Find pretty inexpensive bracelets/ribbon/pony tail holders, etc.
3. Put one glove on your hand and then put the other glove right on top
of it so they are together -
4. Tuck a Hand Cream inside
5. Put a little Holiday cello goodie bag under gloves ($1 for 25)
6. wrap a bracelet or pretty ribbon around the cuff.
7. Include the Gas Gloves card with each pair (see above)

A twist on this idea but with a different card is to find the cute fuzzy socks/slippers and use the Energizing Foot & Leg Treatment instead of the hand cream. (Tickle Your Tootsie) or (A Treat for you Feet) - you get the idea.

Both inexpensive useful gifts! :) I will do a few "Coffe and Creams" in our next idea sharing post.

Marketing - this time of the year!

Do things change a little in the marketing of our Mary Kay during different times of the year? Imho, the answer is "yes". As we start approaching the Holidays more people will be spending less money on themselves and more on others. If we don't let our clients know *all year long* that we can always put gift baskets together, provide gift certificates, gift wrap, deliver, etc... people don't always see the potential of gifts from us. Also if there are things they would like - they don't think to let others know that "on my wish list & here is the number for my consultant", ensuring they end up with something they want, as oppossed to another thing to dust or (lol) regift. The Holidays season can be a wonderful selling season or a big disappointment but each one of us is in charge of our own destiny.

When dealing in these areas (as any other time) be other's focused, make sound suggestions, don't be obnoxius, and work with your clients with their interests in mind not the all mighty dollar. My plans are to include different and fun holiday gift ideas in the next few posts.

Don't wait until the last minute or you won't be selling much. Don't forget to always offer Holiday party look makeovers, new look for the new year, etc.. the way we are most successful in Mary Kay is "future" marketing. - think about retail stores, ie: have you ever tried buying a bathing suit in August? You are far more likely to find a great selection of winter gloves and scarves.

Have a great day everyone!

Marketing ideas

Our shows and facials and reorders are a great income but don't miss the gift giving opportunities, my clients love it when the get Mary Kay products that they want or a gift certificate so they can pick items without having to pay for them. Spring is incredible for this. Day to remember:

Adminstrative Assistant/Secretaries Day - April 22
Teacher's Day - May 5
Mother's Day - May 10
Nurses's Day - May 12
Prom's
Graduations
Father's Day June 21

mk4me's birthday and anniversary - April

Be creative - share some ideas ie: Coffee and Cream - a cute mug with a specialty coffee and a hand cream - cute and affordable!
