An Interesting Perspective

Just stumbled upon this...

Celeste stands at the front of the room during a Mary Kay weekly unit meeting to introduce her new recruit, a shy Peruvian woman named Fatima. Celeste, a mother of five, asks Fatima to talk about why she joined Mary Kay. The audience of 30 women hushes as Fatima’s voice trembles: “Do something you really like.” Fatima pauses as she looks out at the Mary Kay beauty consultants in the room. “I am really scared right now.”

I found this rather long article entitled "The Mary Kay Dream". It is written by Kelly Stewart and can be read in its entirety here.

There is no feature to leave a comment about it there, nor do I think the intent of the author was to be commented to. It is simply what seems to be an outsiders perspective of the Mary Kay world.

How does this compare with your experience?

Are there some things here that she has observed that you never thought about, but an outsider would feel the same way at your meetings?

If you were this person's (the subject of the story) recruiter would you do anything different?

Any other thoughts?

  2. I found this to be accurate in the money part. Not much was made. And she seemed so happy to make that little bit. Other than that, it was no where near my experience.

  4. I just skimmed it because it's crazy busy today at the office. I could relate to it. I could relate it to my own experiences.
